FA Long Service Award for 50 years

At the recent Barkston Ash District Dinner there was two very important and well  awards were presented. The first presentation was made by Barry Chaplin, Chairman of the West Riding County FA, to John Finch was presented with the Football Association Long Service Award for 50 years Service. John’s football career started in 1961 when he was a founding Committee member and player for Red Star in Bradford Red Triangle league. A few years later John then passed his Referee’s exam and continued to progress right up to the present day where he was a Referee instructor and assessor.  John has been  referee and linesman at  cup finals in all major County, District and League in the Wes Yorkshire area as well as FA Women’s Premier league games.

Not only has John been involved in football he has also had nearly as long career in cricket both as a player and as an Umpire.

Barkston Ash District Service to Football Award

The second presentation was made by Mark Heap , Barkston Ash District FA President, to Eric Beedham for Services to football. Eric was Barkston Ash District secretary from 1992 to 2013. During this time Eric help raise and promote the Barkston Ash District FA to one of the best and most respected in the County.

Award for Support and Service to District FA

Tom Ward of Selby Town has been presented with an award by the Barkston Ash District FA for his Service and Support given to the District FA. Tom over the last few years has been present at all the District FA cup finals and Minor squad fixtures making sure everything runs smoothly. Tom helps makes sure the ground is ready for the matches , serves in the tea bar and also makes sure that any balls that end up outside the ground are recovered. Tom, for such a young lad , his enthusiasm and dedication is credit to himself and Selby Town so he fully deserved the award.
